Credibility can be established using clear, concise claims backed by cited research and examples. It is also advantageous to bring light to the sources and methods used to prove the claim of the thesis. A counter position should not be ignored, but clearly presented and refuted. By showing the audience that you understand that there is a counterclaim. This helps your audience understand that you have considered alternate viewpoints that are valid but discount them because of the evidence concluded through research.
To refute counter positions, you may choose to begin with the weakest parts of your claim and build the strength of the argument until the conclusion or the opposite. It is also a great time to instill the importance of the claim when concluding your presentation.
Restate your thesis and reaffirm your claim to begin your conclusion. Avoid bringing in new counterarguments or new evidence. Make sure to also thank your audience and follow up with them and answer any questions they may have.
